Abstract

542,744. Fluid-pressure hoists ; fluid pressure jacks. STANHAY, Ltd., and GOLDUP, C. E. Nov. 9, 1940, No. 16282. [Classes 78 (ii) and 78 (iii)] A hoist normally worked pneumatically is provided with means whereby it may also be actuated by a hand- or foot-operated hydraulic pump. In the construction shown the hoist cylinder a is provided with a piston f on a rod e. The hoist may be single or double-acting and compressed air is supplied thereto and exhausted therefrom by means of a rotary valve g operated by a link i<SP>2</SP> and hand lever i, a stop i<SP>1</SP> defining the working positions of the lever. If the supply of compressed air fails the hoist may be worked by means of an hydraulic pump l operated by a hand lever m and provided with inlet and outlet valves n, o. Connection between the pump, the cylinder, and the liquid reservoir (not shown) is controlled by a three-way valve (not shown) which may be hand-operated, and this valve may be interlocked with a cam r on the spindle of the air valve g, so that when air is being supplied to the cylinder the three-way valve is locked to prevent hydraulic operation of the cylinder. The cylinder a may be made in two parts as shown, the upper part forming an oil reservoir supplied through a plug c, and having a projecting pipe d so that some oil is always trapped in this upper part ard the rod e is always lubricated.
