Abstract

542,599. Selenium cells. VESZI, G. A. July 16, 1940, No. 11758. [Class 40 (iii)] In a photo-electric cell of the selenium type, the selenium surface, which may be on a base of iron, is covered with a first metallic layer and - a composite second layer comprising a plurality of component metals applied subsequently to the application of the first layer. The composite layer may include non-oxidizable and oxidizable metals or non-oxidizable metals only. One of the components of the second layer may be the same metal as that used for the first layer. For example, the first layer may be cadmium and the composite layer may comprise cadmium and gold. The composite layer may be applied by cathode sputtering using a cathode composed of an alloy of the metals or of distinct portions thereof. Specifications 439,774 and 485,530 are referred to.
