Abstract

542,026. Pipe joints. NOBLE & LUND, Ltd., and HEPPLEWHITE, R. March 20, 1940, No. 5203. [Class 99 (i)] A joint for connecting pipes 1, 2 without the necessity of flanging, screwthreading, or finishing the pipe ends comprises a pair of sleeves 3, 4 of white metal, aluminium, copper, brass or fibre which are an easy sliding fit on the pipes, and are compressed thereon and so that their flat ends abut, by union nuts 5, 6. As shown, the inner faces of the nuts are coned to the same angle as the sleeves ; but in a modification the sleeves may be of rectangular cross section. Where a pipe is to be joined to an elbow, teepiece &c. of larger diameter, a single sleeve is fitted on the pipe and is compressed thereon, and so as to abut against the end of the elbow &c. by a nut having screwthreaded engagement with the outer surface of the elbow &c.
