[Class 75 (iv)] A luminaire for use below water, for example, in swimming pools, comprises a casing 1 built into the wall of the structure and having an upwardly projecting sleeve 11 connected by a conduit 12 to a terminal box 13 having a cover 14 flush with the top wall surface. A lens 3 is clamped against the front of the casing by a ring 5 flush with the tiled wall lining 10. The light source is inserted into the casing through the box 13 and conduit 12 and preferably consists of an incandescent lamp bulb 15 arranged at the focus of a conoidal reflector 16 secured by a screw 18 to the casing. The bulb 15 is mounted in a socket 19 adjustable vertically on rigid current conductors 21, 22 depending from an insulator disc 23 bolted to an insulator disc 25 resting on the top of the conduit 12. The conductors 21, 22 preferably consist of copper rods and are connected by a flexible cable to a plug cap 29 fitting a supply socket 30 on a bracket in the box 13. The disc 23 and a disc 20 secured to the socket 19 centralize the rods 21, 22 in the conduit 12. The disc 25 carries a handle 27 to facilitate removal of the lamp. The casing 1 may be formed with a chamber 8 from which any leakage water may be drained by a pipe 9. In another construction terminal box and connecting conduit of the luminaire are of rectangular section and have a surface flush with the wall surface. The terminal chamber and reflector chamber are separated from the connecting conduit by horizontal walls formed with circular flanged openings with which the discs 20, 23 engage.
