[Class 82 (ii)] [Also in Groups XXXVI and XXIII] A ceramic body, e.g. an insulator, 4 is coated at 2 with a minor proportion of non-reducible glaze and a major proportion of powdered refractory metal, the coating being heated to fuse the glaze in a reducing atmosphere, a metal part such as a flange 5 being hard or soft soldered to the metallized surface. An end plate 6 may be similarly attached. The refractory metal may be molybdenum or tungsten, in the latter case the metallizing being coppercoated before soldering. A suitable non- reducible glaze has the composition-feldspar 36.2 parts, flint 30.3 parts, whiting 15 parts, Florida clay 13 parts, and chromium oxide 5.5 parts.
