539,084. Stands. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd. (Compagnie Francais pour L'Exploitation des Procedes Thomson-Houston). June 10, 1940, No. 10077. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Dec. 9, 1940.] [Class 52 (iii)] [Also in Group XX] A balanced suspension system for adjustably carrying X-ray tubes, lamps, short-wave radio transmitters, sound generators, and other apparatus, comprises a carriage 3 slidably mounted on a vertical support 2 and carrying a horizontal tube 5 to the end of which is pivoted a bell crank lever, one arm 8 of which supports the apparatus 9 whilst the other arm 10 is subjected to the balancing force of a spring 11 mounted inside the tube 5. In the form shown, the spring acts on the lever by way of a slide block 13 and connecting rod 12 ; in a modification, it is connected to the arm 10 by a chain passing between a pair of sheaves. The balance is sufficiently exact for the frictional resistances between the moving parts to hold the lever in any position in which it is adjusted.
