Abstract

538,657. Clutches. LOEWY ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and HENSCHKER, E. Feb. 10, 1940, No. 2605 [Class 80 (ii)] In clutch-operating gear the elements which move the shifting lever into the engaged position are returned to the disengaged position before a driven shaft has completed one revolution, the shifting, lever itself being locked in the engaged position until the shaft has made one revolution whereupon the locking means are released and the shifting lever is returned to the disengaged position. A clutch member 11 splined to a driven shaft 12 is moved into and out of engagement with a clutch member 10 by a shifting lever 15 pivoted on a fixed shaft 16. An operating lever 17, also pivoted on 16, and the lever 15 are pressed together by a spring 23, and a spring 22 tends to pivot the lever 17 in a direction to engage the clutch. A trigger 20 holds the lever 17 in the disengaged position. When the trigger 20 is tripped the clutch is engaged, movement of the lever 15 also causing lugs 27 connected thereto to engage fixed catch plates 28. Before the shaft 12 has made one revolution a cam 19 on the shaft 12 engages a roller 18 on the lever 17 and moves the latter to the disengaged position where it is held by the trigger 20. The lever 15 cannot disengage owing to the locking action between the parts 27, 28, and the spring 23 is therefor stressed. When the shaft 12 has completed one revolution a roller 30 on the member 11 engages a cam 29 connected to the lugs 27 and the latter are disconnected from the plates 28. The lever 15 thereupon snaps back into the disengaged position and into contact with the lever 17.
