Abstract
538,282. Filters, HEATHER, F. Jan. 25, 1940, No. 1559. [Class 8 (ii)] Brush filtering elements are arranged in a casing and spaced along its length so as to provide parallel paths therethrough from an inlet to an outlet. The apparatus shown comprises a casing 1 with a co-axial inner cylinder 11 co-axially arranged within the cylinder 10 are four short cylinders 11 each with a central tube 12. The spaces between the cylinders 11 and the cylinder 10 and between the cylinders 11 and the tubes 12 are divided into cells by vertical partitions, and each cell is provided with a brush filter element. The fluid to be filtered is admitted through an inlet 9 below a perforated partition 8 which supports the cylinder 10. Part of the fluid passes upward through the lowest set of cells, part flows up outside the cylinder 10 and passes downward through the top set of cells, and the rest enters, through a slot 13, the space between the intermediate cells and is filtered through these. The filtered fluid passes through slots 14 to a space formed by partitions 15 outside the cylinder 10 and is discharged through an outlet 16. The brush elements in vertically-aligned cells may be mounted on a common spindle 19.
