Abstract
538,027. Suction cleaner handles. HOOVER, Ltd. Jan. 16, 1940, No. 967. Convention date, Feb. 15, 1939. [Class 61 (i)] A vacuum cleaner handle 20 is pivoted to the casing 15 about a friction drum 27 with which co-operates a friction spring 35 carried by the handle and permitting free movement of the handle in an upward direction and releasable by a hand lever 60, and push-rod 50 bearing on the end of a rod 41 connected at 40 to the friction spring when it is required to move the handle down into the 45 degree operating position. Fig. 4 shows a modification wherein the friction spring 35 is held released for free swinging of the handle over a limited arc by means of a pivoted lever 81 connected to the rod 41 and having a hooked end 84 coacting with a raised part 85 on the drum 24. In a further modification, Fig. 5, operation of the release lever 60 operates also a lever 100 for the motor switch 93 by means of pins 101 on the yoke 56.
