Abstract

537,093. Liquid-blast switches. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AKTIEBOLAGET. Feb. 27, 1940, No. 3604. Convention date, March 3, 1939. [Class 38 (v)] An arc-extinguishing chamber has apertures 9, 10 provided in the two parts 13, 14 of a double wall of the chamber, so that the arc - pressure drives liquid from the space between the wall parts out of the apertures 9 and, by obstructing the escape of gas, enables adequate pressure to be maintained. With excessive pressure, escape of gas is possible, as also after the arc is extinguished, the latter feature being useful where the circuit is required to be remade at once. Slidable in the inner cylinder 11 is a spring-controlled collar 17 provided with inner and outer cylinders 16, 15, the whole constituting a differential piston which is driven downwards to expel liquid from the space between cylinders 11, 15, through apertures 25, and into the space between the cylinders 15, 16 to quench the arc. Liquid is also expelled from the space between cylinders 11, 15, the arrangement preseating the advantage over a simple extinguishing chamber (Fig. 1, not shown), that the flow is at a much higher pressure than that in the arcing space, and therefore more obstructive.
