537,061. Stuffing-box substitutes. AKTIEBOLAGET SVENSKA KULLAGER-FABRTKEN. April 4, 1940, No. 6122. Convention date, May 4, 1939. [Class 122 (v)] In a bearing with two relatively rotatable members 12, 13, one within the other, a closure comprises a pair of plates 1, 2 secured to one of the members and enclosing a ring 3 of flexible material which is wrapped over the edge of one plate and enters a groove 7 in the other member. The edges 8, 9 of the groove act as centrifugal flingers to retain oil and keep out dust. The plates may be secured together by spot welding, and the shorter plate 2 may have a burr 6 biting into the sealing material 3. The plates may be secured together and held in place by spinning in plate 1 as at 5, so as to expand the metal on to groove 4 in member 12.
