Abstract

537,039. Force-transmitting elements. PLESSEY CO., Ltd., and COSTA, H., DA. Nov. 30, 1939 No. 31183. [Class 103 (i)] An actuating device, capable of applying only a limited force, for manually operated apparatus comprises a movable member shown in. Fig. 2 as a sleeve 14 carrying a part 18 to which the cable 19 for actuating the apparatus is attached. The sleeve 14 carries mounted to slide within it a rod 12 to which the manual effort is applied to compress a spring 22 bearing against the end of the sleeve 14 remote from the cable attachment part 18 so that the force applied to the cable is that exerted by the spring in compression. Relative movement of the rod 12 and sleeve 14 is arrested after a given compression of the spring by means of brake shoes 27, carried by a part 25 sliding on the outside of sleeve 14 engaging inclined surfaces 29 of the sleeve 14. All the moving parts are enclosed within a tubular guide 10. Specification 455,788 is referred to.
