Abstract

536,809. Hand-irons. TRIGGS, W. W. (Pohl, E. F.). Sept. 18, 1939, No. 26076. [Class 138 (ii)] A hand iron is constructed with a hollow body 1 provided with longitudinal and transverse partitions 31, 32 to form an upper chamber 30 from which steam, generated from water 2 by an electrical heating element 13 between the body and a sole plate 8, passes by a tube 25 and a ring of apertures 24 in a countersunk screw 20 to the work being ironed. The sole plate is secured by the screw 20 and by a screw at the rear between the plugs 15 for the electrical connections, which parts are arranged in a recessed part at the rear of the body 1. A cover 44 having a recess 40 over the top of the tube 25 is secured to the top of the body, and an insulating handle 45 is secured by screws 46, 47. The tube 25 passes through the partition 31 which has an aperture 36 to prevent steam pressure from building up in the upper chamber, a cover plate 39 being arranged about the aperture to prevent water splashing up to enter the top of the tube.
