[Class 38 (v)] An arrangement which provides for the maintenance of butt-contact pressure by a spring H and magnet J as wear of the contact occurs, comprises a support D with a fixed pivot E, a movable-contact lever C pivoted to D at D' and embraced by J, and a toggle F. G. which is pivoted to C and D at C<1>, D<2>, respectively, the spring H being enclosed between G and D, or alternatively between G and C so as to exert an additional pressure directly on the contacts. When the support D is rotated to closed position, the contacts A. B engage with the toggle nearly straight so that the resulting mechanical advantage of the magnet and spring H as the support D continues to rotate, is a maximum. Rotation of lever C however moves the toggle away from its nearly-extended position, so lessening the mechanical advantage. Magnet J co-operates with an armature K on lever G, whereby the mechanical advantage also maintains the contact-pressure against electromagnetic blow-out forces.
