[Class 29] Compression systems.-The return vapour or suction conduit 27 from the evaporator 20 is divided into parallel conduits 28 29 the conduit 28 being of larger bore than the conduit 29 and being branched from aT-piece 33 in such manner that any unevaporated refrigerant is separated and passes with the vapour through the direct conduit 29, which is heated to vaporize the liquid present. The vapour thus reaches the compressor in a "superheated" condition, and the thermal element 30 controlling the usual expansion valve 26 is located on a part of the suction conduit traversed by the "superheated" vapour so that the valve is rendered more sensitive. The heating in the conduit 29 may be effected as shown in Fig. 1 by a coil 32 traversed by diquified refrigerant on its way from the condenser 23 to the expansion valve, or by electric heating elements 35, Fig. 3 in contact with flattened portions of the tube 29, which is enclosed in a two-@art heat insulated casing 41. The arrangement is applicable especially to air cooling systems in which brine cooled by the evaporator in a tank 16 is circulated by a pump 17 through a cooler 15 in the air conduit 10.
