Abstract
533,820. Making mounts for small lamps; bending metal wires. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd. Nov. 30, 1939, No. 31136. Convention date, Nov. 30, 1938. Drawings to Specification. [Class 39 (ii)] [Also in Group XXII] A machine for making filament mounts for small electric lamps comprises a movable turret having a number of heads each supporting two leads and carrying these successively into a series of indexed positions whereat the following operations are performed: (1) a glass bead is threaded over the leads, (2) one bead is fused to the leads, (3) wire from a reel is cut and bent to form a hooked filament support and inserted in the plastic bead, (4) bending operations are simultaneously performed to form hooks on the leads and to finally shape the support. A burner located near the inserting means is automatically turned away from the bead during the inserting operation. The final bending means comprise coacting dies on separate levers whereby one die is carried against the lead wires and support wire and the other die is first brought against the ends of these wires to bend them over the first die and then down on to the latter.
