Abstract

533,526. Packings for stuffing-boxes &c. NEWTON. N. B. Aug. 24. 1939, No. 24337. [Class 122 (v)] Packing for a hydraulic shockabsorber comprises a bush c, slidable in the cylinder b and having a recess at one end to accommodate a sealing-ring l, formed with outer and inner flanges for bearing against the wall of the recess and the shaft a respectively. The other end of the bush has a shouldered portion, to support a compressible ring f and a sliding ring e. Passages k admit fluid pressure to a sealing-ring l, which is retained in the recess, so as to be axially movable therein, by a screwed plug n, which forces a washer m against the end of the bush. The screwing-in of the plug compresses the ring f by forcing the bush and the ring e against a spring ring i located in a groove in the cylinder-wall. The ring f is thereby forced outwards against the cylinderwall.
