Abstract
532,913. Concrete mixers; worm conveyers. BENFORD, Ltd., and McKENZIE, T. A. Sept. 26, 1939, No. 26631. [Class 86] [Also in Group XXX] In a concrete-mixer of the kind in which the ingredients are fed to a rotating drum by worms of increasing pitch working in a hopper divided into compartments by adjustable, vertical partitions, the auxiliary worm, mounted on the bottom of a hopper at right angles to the main hopper, is readily removable to facilitate cleaning, and bars or spikes are fitted to the main worms to prevent tunnelling; the drive is effected by means including a clutch which slips when the resistance is excessive, and the liquid supply is cut off when the worms are stopped. The auxiliary worm 23, working in the cement hopper 24, is supported at one end by a bearing in the finished wall of the hopper and at the other by a dog coupling. The main worm 12 is provided with radial bars 79 which may project from the blade of the worm, and may be in loop form. The worms are driven through a friction clutch which over-runs on the worms being obstructed and is operated by a lever 22 connected by a link 33 with a valve controlling the water supply. The door 68 of the drum is carried by a pivoted arm 68<SP>11</SP>.
