[Class 20 (ii)] [Also in Group XXI] Shuttering for supporting the sides of trenches during excavation or in warfare and capable of forming air-raid shelters comprises flat sections A of pressed metal each having an out-turned. L- shaped flange D at its upper edge, a U-shaped inturned flange C at its outer lower edge and inturned end flanges B. The sections are held at the requisite distance apart in a trench by cross stays E which may have screwed studs at their ends to engage apertures on the abutting end flanges, nuts securing all together. Alternatively pins on the stays may engage eyes on the end flange of one section which are passed through apertures in the end flange of an adjacent section. Flat floors F which may be corrugated or ribbed and slotted for drainage, have downturned flanges to engage the up-turned U-shaped flanges of the side sections. Steps or seats L may be attached by passing vertical extensions thereon through slots in the side sections. Extensions H on the lower edges of the sections engage slots in the L-shaped flange of adjacent lower sections to maintain correct relationship and these extensions may have inturned ends engaging slots in the lower sections whereby they may be supported. Part circular roofing members G with inter-engaging longitudinal flanges may rest upon L-shaped flanges and support sand-bag or earth covering.
