[Class 53] To keep the initial voltage of a dry cell down and to prevent local action during storage, the zinc is coated with vinyl acetate resin which dissolves slowly when the cell is placed in a closed circuit. For application to the zinc surface, the resin may be either melted or dissolved in a suitable solvent.
