Abstract

532,271. Suspended conveyers. REDLER, A. Aug. 23, 1939, No. 24303. [Class 78 (i)] The dead weight of a suspended en masse or bucket elevator is counterbalanced so that the additional weight of the material conveyed causes an overbalance and feeds the elevator downward automatically into the material as the level of the latter diminishes. Fig. 1 shows one construction in which the elevator 10 driven by gearing 28 from the motor 27 is suspended by three ropes or chains 11 from a counterweight 20, the chains passing over the slueing jib 12. The upper end of the elevator is fitted with a ring 35 which slues on the ring 37 supported by the chains 11. The material is delivered through a tube 31. In a modification the jib is horizontal, is pivoted intermediate its ends, and the counterweight is fixed to one end of it. One end of the jib is troughed to house a carrying-off conveyer which delivers through the hollow standard carrying the jib pivot. Two constructions also are described in which an additional hopper or chamber is filled with material to aid the material carried in effecting the overbalance. In one of these constructions, which retains the feature of the horizontal counterweighted jib, a delivery hopper is mounted on the opposite arm of the jib to the balance weight. The delivery pipe from this hopper projects into the interior some distance above the base, thus providing a store of material in the hopper below the delivery level for the purpose indicated. Fig. 5 indicates a modification in which an en masse conveyer 10 is balanced by the weight 45 on an arm suspended by the rope 66 passing over the slueing jib 68. Before the conveyer delivers through the pipe. 30 it fills the chamber 69 and maintains it full despite slow leakage through small holes at the base. This supplies the additional weight necessary for the overbalance.
