Abstract

530,838. Bobbins, reels &c. SCHOFIELD, J. L. June 20, 1939, No. 17950. [Class 120 (iii)] [Also in Group XXVIII] A bobbin or reel comprises end discs of wood or the like with central apertures formed or provided with annular grooves or recesses to accommodate shallow flanges at the ends of the barrel which is split so that it can be contracted to position the flanges in the grooves or recesses and is then expanded and secured in that condition to secure the flanges in the grooves or recesses. As shown, an annular recess 2a is formed in the face of the central aperture in each end disc 2 and the overlapping ends 1a, 1b of the barrel 1 are secured together by solder 3 after the shallow flanges Ic have been positioned in the recesses 2a. The end discs may be formed of ply wood, the annular recesses being provided by forming central apertures of different diameters in the plies or by stepping the aperture in one of the plies.
