Abstract

530,668. Fluid-pressure servomotor systems. BOSCH GES., R. June 29, 1939, No. 18922. Convention date. July 30, 1938. [Class 135] [Also in Group XXVII] In apparatus for controlling the fuel supply to engines in accordance with the pressure and temperature in the induction pipe, the pressureoperated device is connected to the fuel control by an intermediate member which is variably coupled to an operating-member connected to the thermostat, so that the movement of the operating-member has a progressively larger effect on the fuel control as the quantity of fuel supplied is greater. Fig. 1 shows a diaphragm 7 subjected by a pipe 12 to induction-pipe pressure and connected to the pivot 5 of a bellcrank 4, 25, which is connected at 26 to the fuel-pump control 2, and has a pin 24 sliding in a slot 23 in one arm of a lever 20, 22 pivoted at 21 and connected by links 18, 19 to the thermostat 17. Variations in induction-pipe pressure cause movement of the bell-crank 4, 25 and its pivot 5 bodily, the pin 24 sliding in the slot 23, and the effect of this on the fuel control 2 is varied as the arm 22 of the thermostat-actuated lever becomes more or less inclined owing to changes of temperature. Fig. 12 shows a servomotor control in which the pressureactuated diaphragm is connected by a rod 60 to an annular slide 62 containing a valve 65 and surrounding a servomotor piston 64 connected by a rod 81 to the fuel control. The valve 65 has operating edges 67, 68 corresponding to spiral grooves 73, 74 on the periphery of the piston 64, these grooves having connections 75, 76 and 78, 79 to the opposite ends of the piston respectively. Oil is supplied to the chamber 69 between the edges 67, 68 through passages 71, 72. Thus, as the slide 62 is moved axially by variations in induction-pipe pressure, oil is supplied to one or other end of the piston to cause it to follow in the same direction as the slide. The action of the valve 65 is varied according to changes in temperature, by means of a thermostat-actuated arm 98 connected by its pivot 97 to a slotted arm 95 engaging a pin 92 on the valve, whereby the valve is moved angularly over the piston 64, and the relation of the edges 67, 68 to the spiral grooves 73, 74 is correspondingly varied.
