Abstract

530,312. Goggles. CLARKE, Ltd., C., CLARKE, C., and LIVINGSTON, P. C. May 4, 1939, No. 13316. [Class 97 (i)] Each end of the frame of goggles for wear in conjunction with a helmet is attached to the helmet by a support which extends down the side of the wearer's face from a point above eye level past the end of the frame ; each support may be connected to a second point on the helmet below eye level and/or to a chin strap, and is preferably flexible. As shown, eyes, loops, or clips A<SP>1</SP> on the goggle frame A engage a ring B of stout cord, spring, or elastic, which is engaged with hooks C<SP>3</SP>, C<SP>4</SP> secured on a helmet C respectively above and below eye level. The hooks are such that the cord may be forced into them and may then slide freely. The hook C<SP>3</SP> may be attachable to any of a number of press studs C<SP>5</SP> on a plate C<SP>1</SP> ; alternatively a number of hooks C' may be fixed to the plate. A tensioning strap D having looped ends D<SP>1</SP> through which the cord is threaded may be placed behind the head or used as a chin strap. The cord permits the goggle frame to be moved into an inoperative position on the forehead. A modification is described in which each cord has separate ends, and is attached to the helmet above and below eye level. The cord passes through eyes secured by helical springs to lugs on the frame A.
