Abstract
529,486. Fire extinguishing. PYRENE CO., Ltd., and FOX, H. H. June 1, 1939, No. 16194. [Class 47 (ii)] An apparatus, Fig. 2, for delivering fire-extinguishing foam into an oil tank is constructed so as to be readily manhandled and comprises a sectional structure extensible to form a rigid column. A foam discharge apparatus 2 or preferably a mechanical foam making unit is carried by the structure and is lifted as the structure is extended. A pipe 17 is connected to the foam apparatus and is lifted with it and there are adjustable legs 25 for supporting the structure. When the apparatus is not in use, it lies horizontally telescoped on the ground. A delivery pipe 1 has a foam pouring head 3 and three ribs 4, Fig. 3, engaging rollers 5 in brackets 6 near the top of the middle part 7 of the structure. This part 7 is triangular and of lattice construction and the pipe 1 telescopes within it. Below the rollers 5 are three guides 8, Fig. 4, fixed to the middle 7 engaged by. rollers 9. The part 7 telescopes within a base 11 carrying rollers 12. A winch 18 and wire 19 passing over a pulley 20 extend the part 7 while a further wire 22 passing over a pulley 23 extends the pipe 1 which moves twice as fast as the middle part. The device may be tilted and the tripod legs 25 adjusted accordingly. The device may be made of aluminium for lightness. Specification 424,995 is referred to.
