Abstract
528,372. Condensation products from trimethylhydroquinone. HOFFMANN-LA ROCHE AKT.-GES. F. May 5, 1939, No. 13459. Convention date, May 6, 1938. [Class 2 (iii)] Compounds corresponding to the formulae are obtained by condensing trimethylhydroquinone with halides of α - # - unsaturated carboxylic acids in an indifferent solvent in the presence of an acid condensing agent. In the formulae, R, R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>11</SP> represent hydrogen or alkyl radicals. Berizine and carbon disulphide are specified as suitable solvents and zinc chloride and aluminium chloride as condensing agents. The keto group in the products can be reduced. The products are starting materials in the manufacture of pharmaceutical products. In the example trimethyl-hydroquinone is condensed with crotonic acid chloride in benzine solution in the presence of anhydrous zinc chloride. The product has the composition of C 13 H 16 O 3 .
