528,102. Vibration-dampers springs. SYMINGTON-GOULD CORPORATION. April 27, 1939, No. 12655. Convention date, June 23, 1938. [Class 108 (iii)] A spring-supporting and vibration-damping unit for insertion between the bogie frame and bolster of a railway vehicle comprises a barrel 4 fitted with a cap 3 and adapted to receive a number of part-cylindrical friction shoes 13 which are pressed into contact with the barrel 4 by means of an initially compressed rubber or like resilient cylinder 24, the pressure being increased as the unit is further loaded. The lower ends of the shoes 13 are flanged at 15 and embraced by a ring 16, between which and the cap 3 is disposed a helical spring 19, which assists in returning the parts to their normal position. The rubber cylinder 24 has a normal diameter greater than the internal diameter of the ring of shoes 13, so that, when inserted, its ends 25, 26 become convexed and are engaged for compressing the rubber by protuberances 27, 28 respectively on a filler block 21 and on the cap 3.
