[Class 43] A fastener, Fig 1, for buttons, emblems and the like attachments to garments comprises a pointed staple 14, Fig. 2, formed of spring wire of small cross-section to pass easily through fabric 13 and be releasably held in retainer 11 by a sliding keeper 16. The staple may be passed through a button 12 or may be rigid with the button. A two-pronged staple is preferred, but a single one may be used. The prongs are crimped at 20, Fig. 1, and are locked by engagement with notches 24, Fig. 5, in the keeper 16, and abutments 21 in the retaining member 11. The keeper can be released by end pressure on a part b. The ends of the prongs are made to engage a groove in the base of the retainer 11. In a modification, the prongs are outwardly crimped at 20 instead of inwardly and the retainer 11 is correspondingly pressed outwardly. The keeper and retainer can be stamped from sheet metal.
