[Class 108 (i) ] A portable device for lifting and transporting a body more particularly a person lying on a bed or on the ground, comprises a carrier member 1 having at its upper and lower sides rollers 8 and/or balls 3 mounted to rotate on substantially parallel axes and adapted to pass under the body by rolling engagement. A number of such carriers are attached crosswise to a stretcher frame 1. For attachment to the stretcher or the like, a steel strip 9 is provided with one or more apertures 12 or other attaching means adapted to engage projections at the sides of the stretcher. The other end of the frame 1 may rest on the side of the stretcher or be provided with similar attaching means. The strip 9 may be adjustable lengthwise of the frame. In other forms the frame is replaced by a flexible steel strip on which the rollers are mounted, or the rollers may be covered with endless bands. Handles may be provided at both ends of the device.
