Abstract

527,327. Oil engines. DAIMLER-BENZ AKT.-GES. April 6, 1939, No. 10759. Convention date, April 14, 1938. [Class 7 (iii)] A lateral combustion chamber into which fuel is injected communicates with the cylinder space through a passage with which a piston passage registers towards the end of the compression stroke the area of the piston passage being substantially less than the passage of the combustion chamber. As shown, the combustion space e communicates with the cylinder space during the major part of the compression stroke through a wide passage bounded by edges q, r. This passage is gradually cut off by the piston c until at the end of the compression stroke, when the piston enters a recess d in the cylinder head, the communicating passage is restricted to an oblique channel n in the piston. The air inlet and exhaust valves h, i are arranged in the base of the space e which slopes towards the cylinder space. A nozzle l delivers fuel through a passage m in the cylinder head and through the channel n towards a projection o dividing the space e into two chambers f, g in which the air rotates in opposite directions.
