Abstract

[Class 37] [Also in Groups XXXV and XXXVII] In a system in which a dispensable load 51 is connected and disconnected by a contactor 48 under the control of a watt-hour meter 1, so that the demand of the supply 49 is maintained at or below a predetermined value, the demand at which the load is disconnected is adjusted by moving a belt 23 on coned pulleys 22, 24 by means of a tuned stepping-magnet 39 which drives a wheel 54. At a certain speed the wheel 54 is coupled to a wheel 36 through a clutch, and a pawl 35 operates a ratchet wheel 34 geared to a wheel 28 operating on the belt 23. The movement of the wheel 36 is against a centring spring 43 and is limited by stops 42, 53. Thus the amount of adjustment is independent of the duration of. the control impulse. A second device shown partly at 45 effects the adjustment in the reverse sense. When full adjustment has been made the wheel 28 which carries an indicating pointer 30, operates on a switch 32 to disconnect the load 51. Where an agreed minimum supply is guaranteed an adjustable stop limits movement of the wheel 28. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the load is measured by a bi-metallic device co-operating with a second bi-metallic strip to control the dispensable circuit and this second strip is controlled by a resistance varied by movements of the wheel 28. In a further modification, Fig.3 (not shown), the adjustment is effected by a member actuated by two bi-metallic spirals selectively energized under the control of frequency responsive switches.
