Abstract
526,800. Electric battery lamps. STEVENS, A. H. (Winckler Engineering Laboratories, Inc.). Oct. 2, 1939, No. 27053. [Class 39 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXVI] A battery lamp or similar apparatus comprises a number of cells in a casing containing electrolyte in a breakable container and means for preventing interaction of electrodes of different cells through the electrolyte during operation. As applied to a lamp, the invention provides four inert cells, of which two 11, 12, Fig. 1, are shown, arranged in a case 10 around a breakable electrolyte container 20 which is held over a celluloid cup 24 having vertical walls projecting to a level B between adjacent cells. When the base 22 of the lamp is struck a member 23 is forced against the electrolyte container and breaks it, whereupon the released electrolyte floods the bottom of the casing 10 to a level A. As it is absorbed into the cells its level drops below the level B of the separating walls of the celluloid cup 24 and so prevents interaction between the cells.
