Abstract
525,868. Carrier bags. GATWARD, H. F. April 28, 1939, No. 12803. [Class 133] The mouth of a carrier bag is closable by one or a pair of flaps 15, Fig. 1, attached to the long edges, each flap having an endless carrying cord 19 attached thereto and passing out through the adjacent side wall where it is provided with carrying means 19a, so that when the bag is carried thereby the flap or flaps are held in the closed position. Either or both of the flaps may be formed with cut away portions along the free edges to afford an anchoring means with the opposite carrying cord, and the flaps themselves may be adapted to interlock to maintain the bag closed. When a single flap is provided a second carrying handle is attached to the free side wall. The flaps such as 35, 36, Fig. 4, and the attachment portions 31, 39 and 40 may be formed from a single piece of cardboard &c. adapted to be secured within the. mouth of the bag. Flaps may be provided also at the ends of the mouth, or extensions taking within the ends of the bag may be formed on the ends of the side flaps. Specification 26135/08. [Class 18], is referred to.
