Abstract
525,486. Filing papers. DREW, M. J. Feb. 22, 1939, Nos. 5886 and 10405. [Class 146 (i)] A loose-leaf binder comprises two relatively movable jaws each consisting of a spaced series of curved teeth secured together, one of them being supported by a circular bearing surface on the other to permit opening and closing of the teeth. The teeth 1, 3, Fig. 1, may be chamfered and may be oblique or scalloped and are joined by curved parts 2, 4 terminating in bearing rings 5, 6. At one end, ring 6 has a hollow crossbar 11 carrying a spring-pressed bolt engaging one of two recesses in ring 5. Near the other end, ring 5 carries a screw 16 entering a slot 15 to prevent longitudinal displacement.. Part 2 is secured to hinged straps carrying butts which are attached to the covers 19, the covers being recessed at 20 to accommodate the teeth 1, 3. In a modification, Fig. 5, the outer part has two sets of teeth 21, 22, the latter being formed with stops 25 for the teeth 23 of the inner part. The teeth may be ribbed and their side edges may be bevelled to ensure free turning of the sheets. Turning of the teeth may be effected by knurled knobs at the ends of the parts 2, 4 or according to the first Provisional Specification by a cap on the inner ring at one end and a cap on the outer ring at the other end.
