525,373. Coating surfaces. THOMASSEN, T. Feb. 20, 1939, No. 5590. Convention date, Sept. 9, 1938. [Class 95] A method of coating the inner surface of a stamped sheet metal cover, intended to be end seamed to the body of a container, the coating material being applied in liquid form to the cover and the latter rapidly rotated, is characterized in that the application of coating material and the rapid rotation of the cover take place while the cover lies loosely upon a rotating turret, with the inner surface of the cover turned upwardly. Apparatus for carrying out the process comprises a horizontal rotatable conveying disc 1 provided with rotary turrets 3, 4, loading device 30 and a discharging device 31. Each turret is surrounded by a sleeve 12 which is raised while the cover 7, loosely resting on the turret head 4, is being sprayed with coating material from the nozzle 23. The head 16 of a pin 15 on the sleeve 12 engages the cam-shaped top edge of a cylindrical jacket 17, so as to raise and lower the sleeve, and also operate the valve stem 25. Beyond the spraying device, the pulley 5 of each turret is engaged by the driven belt 27, whereby the turret is rapidly rotated and excess coating material is thrown off on to the sleeve 12 and flows into the receptacle-shaped conveying disc 1.
