525,203. Hardness testing. WILSON MECHANICAL INSTRUMENT CO., Inc. Feb. 15, 1939, No. 4987. Convention date, Dec. 29, 1938. [Classes 106 (ii) and 106 (iv] The usual dial indicator employed with hardness testing apparatus for indicating depth of impression is provided with an additional fixed scale 25 which is provided with distinctive markings so that the operator can readily remember the maximum division reached by the indicating needle during application of the minor load, and then, some time after the application of the major load but before completion of the test the zero of the scale can be moved to this memorized indication. The additional scale may have squares or oblongs of different colours, have alternate groups of, say, three spaces joined by lines and left free respectively, or the graduations may be given letters. The device saves considerable time in carrying out tests in mass. Specifications 191,232. 277,517, 290,729, [all in Class 106 (ii)], and 348,915 are referred to.
