Abstract

524,775. Valve generating circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Feb. 7, 1939, Nos. 4017 and 4018. Convention dates, April 9, 1938 and May 5, 1938. [Class 40 (v)] In a harmonic generator fundamental waves are amplified and distorted'to produce sharply peaked waves that are fed back to the amplifier for amplification therein. Fig. 4 shows an arrangement in which a source 10 is coupled to the valves 16, 17 in push-pull and the output applied through transformer 29 and phase shifter 31 to a non-linear inductance 33 as described in Specification 477,875, [Group XXXV], to produce sharply peaked waves. The output is applied through transformer 40 to the valves 16, 17 in push-pull and the output of odd or even harmonics taken from transformers 45, 47. Inductances 13, 14, and 27, 28 respectively prevent energy due to the peaked pulses from passing to transformers 11, 29. The phase shifter may control the phase shift so that the peaks of the two waves are substantially in phase opposition and the peaks may be made substantially equal. Alternatively the fundamental and sharply peaked waves may be 90 degrees out of phase preferably with the sharply peaked waves leading. Fig. 6 shows a modification in which the peaky waves are applied in parallel to the input and a parallel output circuit is used for setting up both odd and even harmonics. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 also describes Fig. 4 (Cancelled and not shown) an arrangement in which peaky waves are applied in parallel and the fundamental in push-pull arranged to produce odd harmonics in the output circuit. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
