Abstract
524,485. Actuation of switches. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and MORRIS, G. G. Feb. 7, 1939, No. 3984. [Class 38 (v)] The main shaft 2 of a transformer tap-changer is operated by a Geneva wheel 1 and striker pin 8 on an arm 6 on a shaft behind, and coaxial with, the motor or hand-driven shaft 20. When the latter is rotated in either direction, a member 21 thereon engages a pin 22 on an arm 11 which is loose on the striker shaft and carries a pair of arms 24, 25, one or other of which, depending on the direction of rotation, engages, after a right angle, a projection 26 on an arm 27 fast on the striker-shaft. Rotation of 11 through 180 degrees stresses a spring 10 by means of levers 12, 13, at which point the pin 8 is about to enter a tooth-slot. Further rotation of 11 allows the spring to expand and advance the wheel 1 one tooth, but the action is retarded by the dashpot action of the piston 16 in the cylinder 14, the retardation being adjustable by valve 19. The arrangement also incorporates that of Specification 524,456.
