Abstract

523,015. Chain tensioning arrangements. STANDARD MOTOR CO., Ltd., GRINHAM, E. G., and DAWTREY, L. H. Dec. 22, 1938, No. 37286. [Class 80 (i)] As applied to a chain-operated timing mechanism of an internal-combustion engine, a substantially rigid finger 11, preferably of aluminium bronze, is pivoted on a pin 12 carried by a bracket of the casing cover, or secured to the engine face. The finger, which is narrower than the chain 13 so as to bear only on the rollers thereof, is pressed against the chain by a bowed twin-leaf spring 14 pivoted at 15 and having sliding frictional contact with the finger and with the casing 17. The finger is so curved that it engages several of the rollers and, in the event of wear, the free end does not touch the chain. The spring may consist of one leaf or of more than two leaves as disclosed, for example, in Specification 445,152.
