Abstract
522,888. Grinding &c. screw threads &c. SHEFFIELD GAGE CORPORATION. Dec. 19, 1938, No. 23867/39. Convention date, Jan. 15, 1938. Divided out of 522,837. [Class 60] [Also in Group XXII] In a machine for grinding taper screw threads &c. in which the work is mounted on a slide moved past a grinding wheel and is simultaneously rotated to produce the required lead, the taper is produced by feeding the wheel transversely to the axis of the work by means correlated to the traversing movement. The work slide 34 has an arm 90 on which is secured a slide bar 91, bearing against an adjustable guide 94 mounted on the table 11, and having pivoted thereto at 97 a bar 98 adjustable by a bolt 100 and slot 101. The face 103 of the bar engages the flat surface 104 of a member 105 pivoted to the slide 27, which is pressed forward by springs 108, so that as the slide 34 moves longitudinally, carrying the bar 91, the slide 27 carrying the wheel moves towards or from the work. The bar 98 is set in correct angular position by means of a gauge block inserted between a post 1101 on the bar 98 and a flat surface 111 on the bar 91. The other parts of the machine are as described in Specification 522,837.
