522,731. Alloys; annealing &c. MEYER, L. W. (Naamlooze Vennootschap Philips' Gloeilampenfabrieken.). Dec. 7, 1938, No. 35730.. Drawings to Specification. [Classes 72 and 82 (i)] Permanent magnets having anisotropic properties are made from iron alloys containing 16-30 per cent. of cobalt, 12-20 per cent. of nickel, and 6-11 per cent. of aluminium, with or without up to 5 per cent. of titanium, and up to 7 per cent. of copper, and with or without the addition of other elements such as silicon, vanadium, antimony, tin, sulphur, chromium, manganese, calcium and tungsten, by cooling them from a high temperature, for example - 1200‹C., while subjected to the action of a magnetic field, preferably in a range between the curie point and about 150‹C. below. The cooling may be effected at not over 10‹C. per second, and the alloy may thereafter be aged by a method in which the cooling from 700‹C. to 500‹C. is effected in stages, the alloys being kept at the successively decreasing temperatures for increasing times.
