Abstract

522,583. Brakes. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd., LIDDIARD, H. W. C., and PETCH, T. H. Dec. 9, 1938, No. 35988. [Class 78 (v)] A brake is applied to a secondary high-speed shaft of a winding apparatus, in addition to the larger brake on the main shaft, in order to enable braking to be applied more rapidly owing to the smaller inertia of the secondary brake. Both brakes are applied simultaneously, at least in an emergency, and the secondary brake may be applied by a weight tripped by a brake solenoid.
