Abstract

522,145. Doors. MURRAY, J. Dec. 7, 1938, No. 20293/39. Divided out of 510,950. [Class 20 (iii)] A door construction comprises a metal box filled with concrete within which is embedded one or more steel diaphragms or sheets 6 having dovetail or like corrugations formed therein. The metal box may comprise front and back walls 1, 2 each in the form of a single sheet; these walls 1, 2 are overlaid with marginal frames 4 forming the top, bottom and side edges of the door. The door faces may also be provided with intermediate steel bands 5 which are arranged horizontally and/or vertically of the door. One or more diaphragms 6 are provided in each frame, preferably arranged vertically as shown in the drawing. The concrete is poured into the box through slots 7 provided in the top wall. The side edges of the door are inclined for engagement with correspondingly inclined faces on the door frame. Rubber tubing or like jointing material 13 is interposed between the edges of the door and the frame, being accommodated in grooves 14. The door frame is formed of steel plates anchored by rag bolts. The door is hinged by vertical rods projecting from one side edge and bearing upon balls contained in sockets in the frame. The edge of the door remote from the hinge may have a roller 18 which runs upon a sunken curved rail 19. The door is locked by one or more bars 20 pivoted on central pivots 21 on the inner door surface and engaging with brackets 22 on the door frame.
