Abstract

521,950. Valve gear; casings. FAIRBROTHER, H. (Bayerische Motoren Werke Akt.-Ges.). Nov. 28, 1938, No. 34618. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (vi)] The driving-gear for the valve cams and oil pump, especially of motor-cycle engines, is mounted in a casing which, together with a driving-pinion, is fitted as a unit on the crankshaft and bolted to the crank casing. The Figure shows the push-rods 7, 8 actuated by cams 15 keyed to a driving-gear 16, the whole being mounted on a shaft 14 carried by a casing 13 bolted to the crank case 24 ; the oil pump shaft 18 is also carried by the casing 13 and driven by a gear 19. The casing 13 with the cam and oilpump drives forms a 'detachable unit, being fitted on to the crank shaft 23, together with a driving-pinion 22.
