521,672. Closures for containers. THORN, P.M. Nov. 24, 1938, No. 34247. [Class 125(iii)] [Also in Group V] In manufacturing a cover for containers having a base member and a cap member rotatable thereon, a cap 12 is moulded from a plastic such as a phenol or urea resin and is formed with a circumferential or other undercut portion 27, and a metal &c. base 10 is formed with a circumferential bead or a projection 25 and is forced into' the undercut portion while the plastic material is still resilient, whereafter the cap is allowed to set . with the metal part in postition. The plastic material may be held in contact with the other part during setting. The cap 12 and base 10 may be provided with central openings 16, 19 adapted to be closed by a shutter 11 on rotation of the cap on the base. The shutter is pivoted on a pin 21 on the cap and is formed with a slot 23 engaging a pin 15 on the base 10. The shutter is formed with an opening 24 which registers with the openings 16, 19 in one position. The top portion 14 of the base 10 may be bowed so as to be resilient. The moulded cap may be applied directly to the top of a glass bottle, and in that case a cork or other resilient washer may be placed between the bottle and the shutter. The slot in the shutter is dispensed with and a pin on the shutter engages a groove in the top of the bottle. Both parts of the article may be of moulded plastic material.
