[Class 91] Soap products, which may be used in hard water and are in the form of powder, flakes, threads, pellets, parings, puffed granules or the like to ensure rapid solution in water, are made from soaps the fatty acid constituent of which contains 10-30 per cent. of saturated acids having more than 18 C. atoms in the molecule, at least 30 per cent. of unsaturated acids, 30 per cent. or less of palmitic or mixed palmitic and stearic acids-the stearic never being more than 15 per cent. of the total fatty acids-any other saturated acids present being of lower m.w. than palmitic. A little rosin may be added. Preferably sodium ortho-, pyro-, meta-, or poly-phosphates are mixed with the soaps. Suitable sources of the C 20 -C 24 acids are hardened herring, sardine, or other fish oils, hardened whale oil, and hardened rape oil. In examples :-(1) 50 lb. of groundnut oil, 25 lb. of palm oil, 5 lb. of rosin, and 20 lb. of that distillate of the fatty acids of hardened herring oil consisting substantially of 2/3 behenic acid and 1/3 lignoceric acid, is saponified ; a mixture of 80 lb. of this soap, 15 lb. of hydrated Na 2 HPO 4 and 5 lb. of hydrated Na 3 PO 4 , or of 76 lb. of soap with 24 lb. of anhydrous sodium polyphosphate is spray-dried. (2) 50 lb. of groundnut oil, 25 lb. of coconut oil, 15 lb. of hardened herring oil, 5 lb. of rosin, and 5 lb. of that distillate of fatty acids of hardened herring oil consisting of about 2/3 C 2 2 and 1/3 C 20 saturated acids is saponified ; a mixture of 101b. of anhydrous sodium pyrophosphate with 90 lb. of this soap is spray-dried.
