Abstract

521,219. Aircraft-landing gear. DOWTY, G. H. Nov. 12, 1938, No. 32963. [Class 4] In aircraft alighting gear comprising a wheel mounting unit provided with a lever carrying a wheel spindle and adapted to be restrained in its movement by shockabsorbing means, a second lever is detachably connected to the spindle on the other side of the wheel bearings to the first lever, the second lever being pivotally attachable to the undercarriage structure coaxially with the first lever and not being directly associated with shock-absorber means. As shown, a wheel 7 is carried by a spindle 4 integral with the lever 2 which is pivoted to one of a pair of parallel undercarriage struts 1, 1A. The lever incorporates a shock-absorber including a check valve similar to that described in Specification 517,380 and 520,995. The spindle includes a piston 5 which moves against compressed air, which is introduced through a tube 10 which passes through an adjustable plug 9 which is a pressure fit in the spindle. The plug is held in place by a fitting 13 connected to a lever 15 similar in outline to the lever 2 on the other strut. The lever may be movable on or rigid with the fitting.
