Abstract

521,014. Blasting detonators and fuzes. ROLFES, Ltd., ROLFES, F. H., and ROLFES, H. J. Nov. 9, 1938, No. 32532. [Class 9 (i)] A . blasting detonator or electric fuze is inserted in a split - tube sheath which forms a piercing or cutting device for the insertion of the detonator into the explosive stick. The sheath 1 may be attached to the detonator 4, Fig. 1, by a metal ring 5 which presses the ends 6, 7 of the prongs of the sheath on to the fuzecord 8. Prongs for anchoring the sheath to the explosive stick may be formed by bent-extensions of the ends 6, 7 or, as shown in Fig. 3, by arms 29, 30 extending radially and then downwardly from the ring 5. This Figure shows the application of the sheath to an electric fuze, 8c being a rubber plug gripping the leads 8a, 8b. The sides 37, 38 of the sheath may be extended as shown in Fig. 5 to protect the fuze-cord 8, when the latter is bent out of line with the detonator, as described in Specification 516,867, [Group II]. The sheaths are preferably stamped from sheet aluminium.
