520,161. Forming staple-fibre yarns from continuous filaments. COURTAULDS, Ltd., and AVERNS, H. M. Oct. 13, 1938, No. 29704. [Class 120 (iii)] A yarn of continuous filaments has some or all of the filaments broken at intervals along their length by passage over an abrasive rod 2 having its longitudinal axis substantially at right angles to the path of the yarn 1 and determining the starting point of the balloon formed by the collecting device. As shown, the stapled yarn is collected by a cap spinning device 3, 4; the abrasive rod may be of carborundum and of circular cross section.
