Abstract

520,025. Electric incandescent lamp filaments. LAISE, C. A. July 12, 1938, No. 20696. Convention date, July 13, 1937. [Class 39 (ii)] [Also in Group II] An alloy suitable for use as X-ray targets, electric contacts, electrodes, and incandescent lamp filaments, consists of over 90 per cent. tungsten, less than 10 per cent. of rhenium, and up to 1 per cent, of vanadium. The alloy may be made by mixing tungsten oxide with a solution of potassium tungstate and an alkali vanadate, drying, powdering, reducing the product in hydrogen, and mixing finely divided rhenium therewith ; or the rhenium may be introduced as a solution of a soluble salt. The resulting powder is pressed into slugs and subjected to working and heat treatment which may include heating in hydrogen at white heat, and, in the case of a filament, may be applied to the filament in coiled form.
